BEST USE OF STONE - COMMENDED
From the Architect:
The Farmhouse is part of a large family farm and the stone used in the building was part of the downtakings extracted from the farm fields nearby (redundant walls, rubble and ruins). These stones have been there for hundreds of years, and to include them in the modern extension to the farmhouse creates a special connection to the farm’s history.
After initial discussions with our client we were a little reluctant to proceed with attempting to match new stonework with existing, and had prepared a number of external finish options for the extension. However, our client insisted and after the finished result we happy to admit that “you were right” on going with the stonework externally. The client worked well with the local contractor to make this possible and using the same stone from the farm facilitated a successful match.
