Are you working on a conservation project in Dundee that could benefit from funding?
Dundee Historic Environment Trust (DHET) was established to promote and encourage the conservation, protection and improvement of our historic environment. It does this by providing grant assistance for the repair of buildings and townscape features, along with outreach heritage grants which promotes the historic environment in the city. We have a particular emphasis on assisting city centre and regeneration projects, especially where the outcome can be seen to be supporting communities and economic activity.
Building Standards Delays
DIA 2021 Award Ceremony
The Building Standards Team is currently experiencing high volumes of building warrant applications and general enquiries. There is now a delay in processing applications and responding to general enquiries. This is likely to continue for several weeks.
If your email is in relation to an active Building warrant or completion, all relevant paperwork will require to be uploaded through the ebuilding portal to ensure it can be picked up and allocated accordingly. If submitted through email, this will result in significant delays in processing. Please note we aim to respond as quickly as possible to all correspondence received.
Should your email be regarding a Dangerous Building or Public Safety Issue please call 01382434000 and request to speak to the Duty Surveyor/ Gordon Caird or Dave Aitken.
If you have a query regarding a FOISA request please follow the relevant links on the Dundee City Council website and submit your request.
According to research by Climate Central, some of Scotland’s central belt predicted to be submerged by sea water come 2050 – Fife's vulnerable coastal communities would be impacted by rising waters.

The DIA are preparing a series of Sustainability themed CPD events over the 6 week period culminating in a half-day conference. These events will be open to the wider public and will also be promoted through the Dundee COP26 website list of events. We hope these events will raise many questions and discussions as to what the Architectural profession can do to reduce the threat of the climate crisis.
The full list of these talks can be seen here.

The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland
The DIA has received a request from the owner of a house in Dundee, who is looking for an architect with experience of working on listed and historic buildings, ideally of the Arts and Crafts period. The building is a C-listed Arts and Crafts house in Dundee city designed in 1909 by Patrick Hill Thoms (LB25417), that is in need of repair and restoration while conserving the originality of the building. The work will include the repair and restoration of the exterior roughcast and detailing, reinstatement of blocked windows, interior work to remodel/remove recent interior interventions, design and build a new detached contemporary conservatory (oak/glass/slate or zinc) linked to the rear door via a glass corridor (thereby enabling the reinstatement of the 'balanced asymmetry' of the rear (north) elevation), and complete exterior repainting. Although a modest-sized house, a careful restoration is important as the design reflects the late 'Voysey vernacular' in style.
If anyone is interested in working on this project, please contact Ian Muir at president@dia-architects.com

Below the Radar TV is developing a new series for BBC 2 featuring home restorations across the UK and looking for projects to film over the summer.
At the core of an episode is the renovation of a heritage house/building (pre-1919) into a new home; and an individual, couple, or family who are ‘coming home to their roots.
The BBC has asked the team to film a pilot program over summer/autumn 2021, and they’d love to hear about any projects that have recently started or are about to go live that feature a ‘coming home’ story?
The producer’s name is Claire Burgoyne, and she’d love to hear from anyone who may be able to help - her number is 07392 866 376 or email cburgoyne@belowtheradar.tv.
