Welcome to the Dundee Institute of Architects website.
My name is Fíona Canavan and I am an architect working in the DIA area, both for a practice and as a sole practitioner. I very honoured and privileged to serve as the DIA president, having been elected in March 2023.

As president, I have a number of objectives for the Dundee Institute of Architects:
1. I wish to continue the strong work of my predecessors in promoting the skills and talents of architects in the DIA area, as well as showcasing upcoming talents in our base of students, graduate designers and architects new to the profession.
2. I wish to enable the enormous undertaking of work that the current DIA Council has been implementing, particularly with events, both CPD and social, in order to continue reconnecting members of the profession.
3. I wish to connect the DIA itself to the wider design and creative communities in Dundee and beyond, as well as engaging the public with work that the DIA and our members do.
4. I will represent DIA members at the RIAS, ensuring that our voices and concerns are heard and are reflected in RIAS policy and support.
The Dundee Institute of Architects belongs and is formed by you, our members. The work that the committee carry out is on your behalf, and the output of the DIA is greatly supported by your voices and input. JOIN THE DIA

If you are an architect and a member of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) or the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), and you work in Dundee, Angus, Perth and Kinross or North East Fife, you qualify for membership of the Dundee Institute of Architects.

To be a member of the RIAS, a candidate must:

Have his/her principal residence in Scotland.
Be in business on his/her own account in Scotland or be employed in Scotland.
Satisfy the RIAS Council that he/she is a fit and proper person to become an Associate in respect of his/her own character and the particulars thereof as it may require.
Have passed any examinations the Royal Incorporation may require.
Be on the Register of the Architects Registration Board.
