BEST NEW HOUSE - COMMENDED

THE COURTYARD HOUSE BY MUIR WALKER PRIDE

From the Architect:

Following a revealing archaeology dig, a new house was constructed in a formerly neglected enclosed courtyard within the conservation area. It is a hidden place accessed via a street door & narrow pend with a restricted headroom through which all excavation and new building materials had to be manhandled.

Many items of furniture were designed and made specifically for the house in Scotland from Scottish wood. The wood came from trees that had either reached the end of their lives or had fallen as a result of storms. The house is a calm oasis adjacent to all town centre amenities.
